House of the Last Rabbi

Jewish families: the Foà

The large house on the corner of Via Bernardino Campi and Via Pio Foà was one of the residences of the Foà family, who, along with the Forti family, formed the Sabbioneta community for centuries. Oral tradition holds that this was the home of Sabbioneta's last rabbi, Cesare Foà, who, after the local Jewish community was dissolved, moved to Soragna, where he died in 1907. The house is identifiable by the main entrance portal on Via Foà, made of white marble with three narrow pyramids, above which are three spheres.
