Documents tell us that in the 12th century it belonged to the Gambulini family, a wealthy and ancient family of the city, who built it and gave it its name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The property passed through many families, most notably the Gonzagas, until it was sold to the Jesuits. It thus became part of the Jesuit complex along with the college and convent (now home to the Virgilio Classical High School) and the Church of Santa Trinit\u00e0 (now <strong>State Archives<\/strong>). At the beginning of the 19th century the&nbsp;<strong>Gambulini Tower<\/strong>&nbsp;It was chosen as the site for the optical telegraph.
