The Gonzaga Gardens. Historical study, survey, and analysis for recovery and restoration.

Objectives: Most of the Gonzaga residences were characterized by the presence of gardens, many of which have been lost or whose characteristics have been distorted over the centuries. This three-volume study, based on in-depth archival research, has produced for the first time a complete mapping of the Gonzaga gardens throughout the territory (Vol. I). The original configurations of the gardens have been reconstructed in detail through photographic, archaeological, georadar, and paleobotanical analyses. gardens of Palazzo Te in Mantua (Vol. II) and of the garden of Palazzo Giardino in Sabbioneta (Vol. III). The latter, long in a state of disrepair, has now been restored to its former splendor, based on analyses conducted and the results obtained, thanks to funding obtained from the Lombardy Region through the "Creative Territories" call for proposals.
