Guidelines for the design of urban public spaces

Time: 2012–2017

Objectives: The Declaration of Value for the Mantua and Sabbioneta site focuses on the urban layout of the two cities. Not only do the outstanding historic architecture stand out, but also, and above all, the public spaces (streets, squares, gardens, porticoes, etc.) play a fundamental role. A study was therefore conducted to analyze in detail the typological, morphological, landscape-environmental, functional, and symbolic-perceptual characteristics of the current public spaces, their state of conservation, and their structural components. This study will inform future intervention plans (street furniture, intended uses, and the organization of specific types of events), while respecting their newly uncovered identity.
