Mantua and Sabbioneta Heritage Center

Since 2014, the activation of temporary spaces in Mantua's historic center has been underway to promote the Office's activities, raise awareness of heritage values, foster new collaborations with the city's cultural institutions, and create opportunities for interaction with the local community. Until 2017, the Heritage Center, managed by the RUM Ri-animazione Urbana Mantova association, hosted educational workshops, citizen meetings, workshops, exhibitions, and initiatives in collaboration with local associations, with the aim of promoting the site's activities and facilitating dialogue with citizens and associations. The Office is currently evaluating the possibility of identifying a space to permanently dedicate to these activities.

PROJECT SHEET

 Production times: 2011-2017

Goals: starting in 2014, a trial was launched to activate a space dedicated to the UNESCO site in one of the vacant spaces available in the city center of Mantua to promote the site's activities and raise awareness of the values of the heritage and the Declaration of Outstanding Universal Value.

ActionsThe first experiment in the vacant spaces of the historic center can be considered participation in the "Mantua in a Hundred Shop Windows" initiative. For X months in 2011, some of Mantua's vacant shop windows were "adopted" to host an open-air archival photography exhibition dedicated to the historic center, showcasing a forgotten side of the city.

The first space identified as a Heritage Center was opened in 2014 on Via Verdi with the collaboration of cultural associations and various citizen groups in activities to raise awareness of the site and the protection and promotion of its values.

The experiment continued until 2017, with the latest activation in Via Orefici, in which some students on work-study programs also actively participated.

From 2014 to 2017, educational workshops, meetings for citizens, workshops for associations, exhibitions, and initiatives in collaboration with local associations were held to promote the site's activities and facilitate dialogue between citizens and associations.
