The application dossier

Any site that applies to be included in the World Heritage List must submit to the UNESCO Committee a Application Dossier structured according to a predefined format. Mantua and Sabbioneta they presented the Dossier in January 2007.

Section 1 – Identification of the asset
The information necessary for the identification of the property is provided, the geographical coordinates, the maps indicating the perimeters, the identification of historical and architectural assets, protected buildings, protected historical and landscape areas.

Section 2 – Description
Description of the Mantua area and of Mantua and Sabbioneta, of the main urban monuments, and of the history and development of the area.

Section 3 – Justification
The site must submit its draft declaration of outstanding universal value and the criteria according to which it is proposed for inscription, which the UNESCO Committee will decide whether to accept or modify. The comparative analysis highlights the site's specific characteristics compared to other Renaissance cultural capitals.

Section 4 – State of conservation of the property and factors affecting the property
Report on the current state of conservation and on the factors that may affect the property.

Section 5 – Protection and management of the asset
The tools and measures that ensure the protection and proper management of the property, the environmental or landscape protection constraints, and the existing planning tools are indicated.

Section 6 – Monitoring
Key indicators are identified to measure the state of conservation of the asset.

Section 7 – Documentation
List of images and bibliography.

Section 8 – Coordinates of the responsible authorities
Institutional references of the site.

Section 9 – Signature of those responsible

In this version of the dossier, updated with the changes that occurred during the application, the final draft of the Declaration of Outstanding Universal Value prepared by the UNESCO Committee when the site was inscribed on the World Heritage List in July 2008.
