The Prince's City

Beyond the edge of the Rio, the city opens up with its Renaissance extensions. We recommend you walk along Via Principe Amedeo. You will then find yourself walking on Prince's Path It runs through the city and connects the Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Te, the public and private residences of the Gonzagas. Along the street, you'll find many historic buildings belonging to noble families who were close friends with the Gonzagas. With the beauty and luxury of their homes, they contributed to the city's prestige and earned the favor of the Lords of Mantua.

At the end of this road you will find places that are symbols of Renaissance culture, not only Mantuan but also Italian, such as the Mantegna's House, with its cylindrical courtyard, the Temple of San Sebastiano, built on a project by Leon Battista Alberti, Palace of San Sebastiano, which housed the famous Triumphs of Caesar painted by Andrea Mantegna and Te Palace, a masterpiece of the creative genius of Giulio Romano.
